PLI Receives Green Business Challenge Award
Company Engages Employees and Successfully Reduces Waste and Conserves Energy
December, 2019 - ST. LOUIS, MO – PLI (Plasticard-Locktech International LLC) was recently recognized with the St. Louis Green Business Challenge Award from The Missouri Botanical Garden for their participation in the Green Business Challenge at the Apprentice Level. At this level, companies work with a menu of fundamental sustainability policies and practices. Each participant chooses to work on measures that will best advance their business goals and fit with company culture. Services include a training seminar, customized coaching, peer-to-peer learning in a report-out seminar, and the opportunity to network and learn at monthly Challenge programs.
PLI’s Green Initiatives Included –
Creating a Green Team composed of employee representatives across all departments
Establishing a Waste Coordinator position tofocus on continuous improvement
Employee education on sustainability, providing reusable drinkware to employees, eliminating single-use plastics from employee break room
Converting to green cleaning products and purchasing office products containingpost-consumer recycled material
Implementing a paper and corrugated recycling program – reducing landfill waste by nearly 65%
Completing a lighting audit to identify potential energy conserving upgrades and implementing a“Lights Out” checklist program to conserve energy
Issuing a no-idling policy at the shipping dock
